Barbacoa Safety Instructions

Barabacoa Pro  Premium Kamado Grill

SAFETY

The safety of our product stands or falls with the way you use it. For optimal safe use,

please see our instructions below.

FILLING AND LIGHTING YOUR BARBACOA PRO

Coarse charcoal is ideal for the optimal functioning of a kamado grill. Grit and or briquettes really work less. Coarse charcoal allows a good supply of oxygen. In addition, coarse charcoal ensures a long and even heat release. If there is still a preference to use briquettes, please consult us for proper advice.

Do not use firelighters and do not use firelighters for lighting. This is to avoid off-flavours with your food.

Place the charcoal on the black metal plate or the stainless-steel basket, depending on your model of your kamado grill. Adjust the amount of charcoal to the amount and time you plan to cook. Estimating the right amount is a matter of experience. However, never overfill your grill and keep the air inlet slider on the underside of the front free for oxygen supply. Place the kindling wool between the charcoal and not on it.

Fully open the air inlet slider and also open the air outlet on the top of your grill’s lid.

Light the firelighters with a long match or a special BBQ lighter.

Using suitable means and using suitable gloves, place the accessories you need for cooking, such as the grill rack or the oven stone.

As soon as the grill starts to burn well after a few minutes, the lid can be closed.

Installation and mounting is done with the accompanying user manual.

TO LIGHT YOUR BARBACOA

Very coarse charcoal is the most ideal to use. Grit clogs the air grille and it is better not to use briquettes!
We recommend the barbacoa.PRO charcoal, these are exactly equal specially created chunks.

Depending on the size of your barbacoa.PRO and for which dish you want to use it for the next few hours, fill the bottom. Place the charcoal on the black metal plate. Always do this so that a lot of oxygen can pass through the bottom air grill and past your charcoal. Put a few odour-free firelighters in between, not on the charcoal.

Open the bottom slide with the barbacoa.PRO logo completely open, at the highest position. Also do this at the top, put the slide at the chimney in the most open position.

Light the firelighters preferably with a long match or special lighter (we strongly advise against all other lighting attributes except a foliage lighter) and close the lid after a few minutes, if you see that it is burning well.

Depending on the application, follow the next steps.

Meanwhile (while you check whether everything is clean) you see the temperature slowly rising to 70 degrees Celsius, at 70 degrees you set the bottom air grille in half in terms of opening.

You also do this with the upper air grille by changing the large opening into the ring with the small openings, which can be squeezed even more later.
Less oxygen will cause less charcoal to glow and the temperature to rise more slowly. If you notice that the temperature is going down, a little more air should be added. Initially at the top, if that is not enough, you can open it again at the bottom. You have then squeezed too much, there is too little oxygen for the coal (this can also be due to too few firelighters or just too little charcoal).

If the temperature rises slowly after this, close everything further to half of the current openings below and above. After 7 to 8 minutes per step, you are at your goal. If the temperature remains constant for 5 minutes, you can place the appropriate accessories in the correct position with the correct safety steps and materials.

The first time it will be looking for the desired result, but after a few times it will go smoothly. Always use the same type of charcoal – in terms of sizes and weights. This definitely has an influence on the steps to be taken and the result.

REFILL YOUR BARBACOA

It can certainly happen in the beginning that you have used a little too little charcoal or that you have to add a little charcoal for another reason. Lift off the top accessories with the appropriate accessories and special gloves. Stir with the poker through the remains of charcoal and ash so that the ash will fall through the holes. Add some charcoal depending on what you still have to prepare. Maybe even 1 or more firelighters. If you intervene in time, everything can also light up again through the supply and discharge of air.

When you have finished enjoying your barbacoa.PRO, stir the remains again and just leave the large parts for the next time.

Now remove the ashes at the bottom with the ash poker, collect this in a container. If desired, you can also buy a special receptacle for this. Clean what you have made dirty.

OPERATING TEMPERATURE

Once the grill has reached 70 degrees Celsius, close the air inlet and outlet halfway. Then let the temperature rise to the desired operating temperature. This usually takes between 5 and 10 minutes. By varying the air supply and exhaust, you can achieve the different desired working temperatures. Adjusting the temperature takes a few minutes and is of course a matter of experience.

It is recommended to always use the same charcoal sizes and weights. This makes it EASIER to quickly set the correct temperature.

REFILL IN THE MEANTIME

Always use suitable tools and suitable gloves for this. Using a poker, stir the leftover spent charcoal and ash through the bottom holes. Then add charcoal as required and possibly one or more kindling wool.

TERMINATION OF USE

When you have finished using it, you can stir the charcoal remnants out through the bottom holes with an ash stick and remove them. You can leave large pieces of charcoal for the next time. Keep in mind that the ceramic and therefore also the stainless-steel parts cool down slowly. It is recommended to clean used accessories and parts after use.

PLACE AND USE THE BARBACOA PRO IN A SAFE PLACE

Never place the barbacoa.PRO under low trees / branches or on a sloping or uneven ground. Make sure you always lock the castors when the barbacoa.PRO is in place, this also counts for the castors of our table. Never move the barbacoa.PRO while you are using it or when the charcoal is still hot!

If you want to transport it with the table, always make sure that you always place the wooden wedges between the barbacoa.PRO and the table top first. If you are going to transport, always make sure that this is done with patience and on a smooth floor without obstacles. In case of a bump or obstacle ask for an extra hand to lift and / or guide.

PREVENT FLASHBACK

Light the barbacoa.PRO and initially lift the lid 4 fingers thick a few times before opening it completely, this way the air will slowly flow in and flame recoil can be prevented. Always be on your guard when you open the babrbacoa.PRO that all air controls are in good condition, the sudden influx of fresh air can cause high flames. If high flames arise, immediately close the lid and the air controls to extinguish the flames, then open the barbacoa.PRO again very carefully. We recommend that you always wear heat-resistant gloves and protect yourself well.gs.

LIFT THE GRILL GRATE WITH THE AXLE LEVER

To grip and lift hot grates, we recommend that you do this with the help of the ash stick and a heat-resistant glove. Always pick up the toaster in the middle and make sure it is well balanced. We recommend that you always wear a special heat-resistant glove in order to steer these red-hot metal parts to where they can be – out of reach of children and animals.

FIRE PIT

Never remove or adjust the fire pit during use or just afterwards. This is also not allowed if there is still hot charcoal in the barbacoa.PRO. Never remove warm charcoal from the barbacoa.PRO. This prevents dangerous situations and will improve the life of your barbacao.PRO.

LOOK

You can burn or scorch yourself with the hot air that comes through the chimney, with all its consequences.

TO TOUCH

Be extra careful with children and animals, the outside is just as hot as the inside and it stays warm for a long time after use. So do not touch the outside. Always keep flammable materials away from the barbacoa.PRO.

CHANGING ACCESSORIES

Removing hot objects such as the grill grate, pizza stone or other accessories from the barbacoa.PRO should be done with the utmost care. These parts are very hot after use and the ceramic is VERY fragile. If you remove the grill or other parts from the barbacoa.PRO and they are still hot, make sure to place them where no one can burn them. Choose a location where they are secure and will not slide off or otherwise cause a fire. Do not place them on highly flammable surfaces. Never forget to use your heat-resistant gloves and your gripping tools to prevent burns.

THE BARBACOA PRO

Never pour water on the charcoal in the barbacoa.PRO to make the barbacoa.PRO. Simply close both air controls and the charcoal will go out by itself.

FIRE HAZARD

Never leave the lid of a burning barbacoa.PRO open if you are not there. Make sure there are no dry plants, trees, shrubs, wooden floors, or other highly flammable materials near your barbacoa.PRO when it is in use. If you use the barbacoa.PRO during camping and / or picnics, remember that open flames and whether the sparks are dangerous for people, belongings and also pay attention to nature.
